The Sarod player Ranajit Sengupta exhibits a considerable career at the age of 37 years worldwide on the bigger festival stages, as film composer for international projects and as a lecturer for Indian Cassical Music. Sengupta is married with Shirin Sengupta, a female singer of Indian Classical Music and the vocal style "Khyal".
Senguptaâs musical talent was noticed very early in a family shaped by music. Already at the age of 6 years Ranajit Sengupta, played "live" on his first instrument, the Western Mandoline for All India Radio (AIR), the national radio of India. His 1st CD production "child Prodigy" Sengupta published at the age of nine years by the Indian label INRECO (Indian Record Company). 1998 he was considered on his current main instrument, the Sarode as a winner of the All India Radio Competition with the highest honour, the President Award.
For the editorship of IMC OnAir it was a special interest to experience from an Indian instrumentalist & composer how he arranges the music culture of Indian Classic with 1 ½ decades of experiences on international concert stages and as a lecturer. Our special feature "STUDIOTALK" carries therefore the the sub title: "From Guru-Shishya-Parampara to modern Music Education in the 21st century."
In his art work Ranajit Sengupta is concerning and rendering the music-therapeutic effect of the Aalap. Aalap is the first, slower part of a Raga, in that itâs characteristic and notes of the ascending / descending Raga scales and ornaments are introduced.
